«Reflection of the Great Steppe …»

On March 4th, 2010 in the North-Kazakhstan regional museum of local lore, history and economy was opening ceremony of the exhibition «Reflection of the Great Steppe …» from the funds of the Museum of the First President of RК (Astana).
      It was organised jointly with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The goal of this exhibition is to get acquainted the visitors with the life and traditional culture of Kazakh people of the XIX-th century through the works of Bronislav Zalessky and Konstantin Nikolaevich dе Lazari.
      For the first time among the European artists the life of Kazakhs is represented in the present realistic manner in the collection of Bronislav Zalesskys (1820 - 1880 гг.) works «The life of Kazakh steppes». Sketches of utensils, suits, ethnographic details are very true, landscapes and past monuments are perfectly executed. B. Zalessky materials – is a well of raised emotions, amazing descriptions of the nature, people, their life in the XIX-th century.
      There was also one of the brightest ethnographic photo collections of the end of the XIX-th century of the known Polish researcher Konstantin Nikolaevich de Lazari. In 1897 and 1898 years he sent to the Museum of anthropology and ethnography of Peter the Great (Kunstkamera) three collections of photo materials about culture and life of Kazakhs of Lepsinsk district of Semirechesk area. In the photo collection there were photos of Kazakh brides in the wedding headgear “saukele”, which had become the first photos of this headgear. All these photos are original documental sources of ethnogeny, customs and traditions of Kazakh people. They were introduced in the limits of the State program “Cultural heritage”.
      For the first time this exhibition was held in autumn 2009 in the Museum of the First President. The inhabitants and guests of Petropavlovsk city can visit it till the 4th of April, 2010.
